"The pain cup" - what is it?
The pain cup metaphor: finding unique solutions
A useful way to understand pain is through the "Pain Cup" metaphor. In this analogy, the cup represents you, and various factors—such as poor sleep, stress, physical strain, or lack of movement—fill the cup. When the cup overflows, pain occurs.
To reduce pain, the focus should be on identifying and minimizing contributing factors. This could mean improving sleep quality, incorporating more movement into daily routines, or managing stress more effectively.
There are no one-size-fits-all solutions—the key is to remove or reduce what fills your Pain Cup. While it’s impossible to empty the cup completely, small changes can make a big difference in managing and preventing pain.
