The power of breaks in an ergonomic workplace

More breaks, more movement

Frequent breaks, especially those involving movement, are crucial for reducing pain. A 2021 study found that active breaks can lower the risk of developing back and neck pain by up to 66%. Taking short breaks throughout the day—such as grabbing a coffee or a glass of water—can be highly effective.

A workplace that encourages regular movement and breaks is the only truly ergonomic workplace when it comes to pain prevention.

Strength training at work – the new trend?

Research from the National Research Centre for the Working Environment shows that strength training can significantly reduce neck and shoulder pain. Just 20 minutes of training, three times per week, has been proven effective. Even two minutes of daily resistance band exercises can help alleviate discomfort.

Training at the workplace, especially together with colleagues, appears to be even more effective than exercising alone at home. The key is to find the type of movement that works best for you—whether it's strength training, cardio, or simply incorporating more movement into your breaks.
